It has been a privilege and an honor to
serve as a Member of the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors since the
people of the Fourth District first
elected me into office in 1996. In that
time, we have achieved much, working
together to improve our County and
communities.
In the past year alone, a number of
programs and services I have worked on
and advocated for throughout my time in
office have witnessed a tremendous level
of success. The Los Angeles County Safe
Surrender Program recently celebrated
its fifth anniversary and in that time,
nearly 50 newborns have been safely
surrendered, each one a life that could
have otherwise ended in tragedy. Reforms
in our Workers Compensation program have
resulted in dramatic savings to County
taxpayers, already reducing costs by
several hundred million dollars, all
while providing better services to
injured workers. Rancho Los Amigos
National Rehabilitation Center, truly
the crown jewel in the County’s
healthcare system, remains open for
business and
is truly flourishing with new
rehabilitative programs for youth and
adult patients.
Within this Year in Review, you will
find more information of the successes
of these programs, as well as
information on dozens of other services
and advocacy efforts we have achieved in
the past year.
I look forward to sharing
the details of these successes with you
in the pages ahead and to continue
serving you as Supervisor of the Fourth
District.
