On March 24, 2007, I had the distinct
honor of being presented with a large
portrait in recognition of my support of
Los Angeles County’s Rancho Los Amigos
National Rehabilitation Center. Small
versions of the painting are displayed
on the top right side of this page, but
you are welcome to see the full-size
portrait, which is proudly hanging in
the lobby of my office.
The painting was created by Robert
Thome, a world- renowned mouthstick
painter. Robert broke his neck in a
football game at age 15, suffering a
catastrophic spinal cord injury that
paralyzed him from the neck down.
Nearly four decades ago, he did his
rehabilitation at Rancho, which is
located right here in the Fourth
District. While at Rancho, Robert
learned to paint with a mouthstick.
Today, Robert travels the world working
to help children of all abilities
envision the limitless possibilities
life offers to all of us through prayer,
hard work and determination.
Robert’s success and the other triumphs
coming out of Rancho Los Amigos are just
a few of the miracles and achievements
happening every day across Los Angeles
County. You can learn much more about
these success stories online, by
visiting my website at knabe.com. While
there, you can read about the County’s
current efforts and about the issues
impacting the Fourth District. Knabe.com
also has details on how I am working
with local leaders to improve our cities
and unincorporated areas, how to contact
my office, and how to get assistance
from Los Angeles County.
