SCRAA Meeting

I would like to thank my colleagues for being here for today’s meeting.

This is a day I have long hoped for – the first meeting of the reactivated Southern California Regional Airport Authority.

While the participation of every government member today is key to the success of SCRAA – it is also important to point out the participation of the City of Los Angeles at the table today.

I want to thank Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa for agreeing to seek a regional solution to the ever expanding air traffic in Southern California.

The Mayor’s appointment of Councilman Bill Rosendahl to this group sends a very strong signal of cooperation.

Re-activating SCRAA enables local leaders to be visionary as air traffic continues to outpace current capacity and crucial aviation planning continues.

My hope is that we will be able to bring together key stakeholders to integrate individual and sometimes conflicting needs to ultimately initiate a system of complementary airports that meet Southern California aviation needs.

We face regional challenges in the future of aviation growth – regional challenges need regional solutions.

We are taking the first steps to finding those solutions today.
