Friends of the Fourth
District:
On June 3rd, I was honored to be overwhelmingly reelected by the
voters of the Fourth District to serve another term as their
representative on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. On
election night, hundreds of residents, friends, and family members
joined us in a victory celebration as we watched the returns come
in.
I have many people to thank, including my family: my wife, Julie,
our two sons, Matt and Curt, their wives, and our grandchildren.
I appreciate the hard work and support of our extended family,
long-time friends, and many neighbors.
I want to thank my superb Fourth District staff and my reelection
campaign team.
Most of all, I want to thank you, the residents of the Fourth
District, for your support in this election and over the years.
I have had the privilege of serving on the Board of Supervisors
since 1996, and ever since that first day in office, I have been
humbled by the trust and the confidence of Fourth District
residents. With your trust comes a duty to serve each of you, and I
will do my best to fulfill that duty every day as your County
Supervisor.
As I look ahead to the next four years of service as your
Supervisor, I wanted to share with you in this edition of my Monthly
Message an opportunity to look back at the successes of the past
year. I am pleased to announce that my newest Year in Review is now
complete and available at Knabe.com. In the past year, a number of
programs and services that we have worked on and advocated for have
witnessed a tremendous level of success. Within this Year in Review,
you will find extensive information on my legislative priorities and
other services and advocacy efforts that have achieved success in
the past year.
The Year in Review also shares stories of triumph from within the
County that you might never read about otherwise. This includes the
remarkable story behind a large portrait I was recently presented
with in recognition of my support of Los Angeles County’s Rancho Los
Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. A small version of the
painting is displayed in the Year in Review, but you are welcome to
see the full-size portrait, which is proudly hanging in the lobby of
my office.
The painting was created by Robert Thome, a world-renowned
mouthstick painter. Robert broke his neck in a football game at age
15, suffering a catastrophic spinal cord injury that paralyzed him
from the neck down. Nearly four decades ago, he did his
rehabilitation at Rancho, which is located in the Fourth District.
While at Rancho, Robert learned to paint with a mouthstick. Today,
Robert travels the world working to help children of all abilities
envision the limitless possibilities life offers to all of us
through prayer, hard work and determination.
Robert’s success and the other triumphs coming out of Rancho Los
Amigos are just a few of the miracles and achievements happening
everyday across Los Angeles County. I look forward to ensuring that
wonderful opportunities and achievements like this continue to occur
across the County as I continue to serve as your representative on
the Board of Supervisors.
DON KNABE

County of Los Angeles
